Fifty-three organisations awarded for their Human Resource Development excellence

Published on 30th November 2009

Today (30th November, 2009), Minister for Lifelong Learning, Seán Haughey TD presented awards to 53 organisations who achieved the FÁS Excellence Through People Standard, a best practice model for human resource management, in Dublin’s National Library.

Speaking at the awards ceremony Minister Haughey said “Successful organisations are those who realise that people are their most important asset and act on that by linking the achievement of business goals, to investment in learning and development of their workers.”

Stating that the Government recognises that organisations must constantly improve the efficiency of their operations in order to remain globally competitive, Minister Haughey added: We encourage the development of a Lifelong learning culture within organisations, both private and public, and acknowledge that this may involve increased levels of investment in training, research and development, technology and innovation. However these strategies are necessary to bolster Ireland’s competitiveness in a knowledge and innovation-based global economy and will also enhance the attractiveness of Ireland for both domestic and inward investment.”

Designed to improve performance through its people, Excellence Through People, with its emphasis on business improvement through employee involvement, plays an important role in increasing the efficiency and competitiveness of Irish business and organisations.

Mr Paul O’Toole, FÁS Director General, added that the FÁS Excellence Through People Award is to recognise organisations who have adopted best practice in their systems and demonstrate employees’ active involvement in the day-to-day running of an organisation.

The 53 organisations receiving this national human resource standard today come from throughout Ireland and comprise a variety of public and private organisations in sectors including retail, education and hospitality. This award ceremony brings the total number of employers who have received this prestigious accolade to more than 800 nationwide.
