Finding the right job is an exciting and challenging task. FÁS provides expert guidance and resources, with access to job vacancies, online CV profiling for employers from all over Europe, and effective CV-to-job matching at FÁS Jobs Ireland (freephone 1800 611 116).
The Jobseeker Directory offers invaluable aids such as an A-Z of Careers; Creating a CV Online; and Interview Tips, along with information on Work Permits; and Employment Rights. Jobseekers can also register at a local FÁS Office or Local Employment Services Office for on-site information, guidance, referral and placement services.
FÁS has increased the range of training options available to Job Seekers to assist their re-entry into the labour market. Courses, such as Specific Skills Training and Traineeships which lead to major awards on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) will continue to be offered. FÁS also offers a number of Short Courses (typically 2 modules) as well as Evening Courses, Online Courses and Blended Learning Courses which lead to component certification and/or industry recognised certification.
Working and Training Abroad are exciting options; the EURES job mobility database provides access to job vacancies in 29 countries, as well as practical information such as necessary documentation.
FÁS offers dedicated services aimed at giving individuals an opportunity to participate in community life through community based work experience and training programmes. There are also Job Clubs where people can actively develop skills for job-hunting detailed in Communities.
Advancing your career can be as important as finding one. Employers also know that improving the knowledge and skills base through lifelong learning opportunities is vital for staff and company performance. FÁS aims to encourage education in the workplace and the improvement of skills for work, or 'upskilling', through its One Step Up initiative. The recently announced Work Placement Programme is designed to offer unemployed people, including unemployed graduates, the opportunity to obtain 9 months experience in a work situation
As a step along the way to finding a job, FÁS provides many training courses for jobseekers listed at FÁS Jobs Ireland. In addition, tailored training for Apprentices enables men and women to become craftspersons. FÁS is a registered organisation with the Garda Central Vetting Unit (GCVU) which "makes criminal history vetting disclosures to registered organisations in respect of, inter alia, prospective employees, volunteers, students on placement, and trainees who would have substantive, unsupervised access to children and vulnerable adults." This policy concerns FÁS' role as a provider of training and employment programmes, in particular in relation to the eligibility and recruitment of potential participants or trainees working or training to work with children and/or vulnerable adults*.
