Anyone seeking employment in Ireland must apply for an Irish Personal Public Service Number (PPS). To obtain this number you must contact your local Department of Social Protection. For further information on the application process and requirements contact the Department of Social Protection on 01 874 8444 or log onto www.welfare.ie
EU, Swiss and European Economic Area (EEA) nationals have the right to live and work in Ireland without a work permit, and have the same rights as Irish nationals with regard to pay and working conditions.
Bulgarian and Romanian nationals will continue to require a permit to take up employment in Ireland. However, these employment permit requirements apply only to the first continuous twelve months of employment in the State. At the end of this twelve month period a Bulgarian or Romanian national will be free to work in Ireland without any further need for an employment permit.
If you are a member of EU and/ or European Economic Area (EEA) a residence permit is not required. All non-nationals who are not citizens of a Member State of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, must register with Garda (Ireland’s National Police) National Immigration Bureau (Tel: +353 1 6669130; Web: www.garda.ie).
