Qualification
On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Financial Services Support.
The Course
The Financial Advisor’s Assistant Traineeship aims to provide both school leavers and unemployed people with an excellent foundation in the skills required to work in the Life Assurance/Mortgage Broking sectors. The duration of the Financial Advisor’s Assistant Traineeship is 27 weeks. The Traineeship consists of 19 weeks off-the-job training with FÁS (including 2 weeks integrated training - 3 days per week with FÁS and 2 days per week with a host employer) and 8 weeks on-the-job training with a host employer.
The Job
A Financial Advisor’s Assistant is a qualified worker capable of carrying out competently, under normal operational conditions, the day-to-day tasks arising in a Life Assurance/Mortgage Broker environment.
These tasks include:- conducting insurance business that conforms to regulatory changes; maintaining client files as specified by the Central Bank; inputting client and policy details on computer and liaising with Insurers and Lenders.
The Person
You must have reached the current statutory school leaving age of 16 years and you should have one or more of the following:
- Education to Leaving Certificate standard
- Successful completion of an ECDL programme
- Be a mature applicant
- Two years relevant experience
You should have proficiency in using a computer, excellent literacy, numeracy and communication skills, a mature attitude and you should enjoy working in a team. Some IT skills and previous customer orientated experience would be advantageous, and you should demonstrate an interest in the financial services industry.
Progression
When qualified you will have opportunities to progress to senior positions in the Financial Services sector through your experience and further education or training which you may undertake in areas such as banking, mortgages and pensions.
