Qualification
On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in IT Specialist Support.
The Course
The IT Support SpecialistTraineeship provides both school leavers and the unemployed with an excellent foundation in the skills needed to install and maintain computer devices and related communications equipment across a wide range of industrial, commercial and not for profit sectors.
The duration of the IT Support Specialist Traineeship is 48 weeks. The Traineeship consists of 36 weeks off-the-job training with FÁS and 12 weeks on-the-job training with a host employer.
The Job
An IT Support Specialist works on and off site across a wide range of industrial, commercial and not for profit sectors. The role of a qualified IT Support Specialist includes: using a selection of business and network applications software, installing, configuring and optimising a network of computer devices and telephone systems, communicating effectively with support managers and supporting colleagues and external clients.
The Person
You must have reached the statutory school leaving age of 16 years and be educated to Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent. Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential. Good verbal and written communication skills are desirable. You should have an analytical approach to problem solving and decision making and an interest in IT.
Progression
When qualified you will have opportunities to progress to senior positions in the IT sector through your experience and further education or training which you may undertake at a higher level of IT Support.
