On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Software Development

The Course

The Software Developer Traineeship is designed to address both the entry level requirements of the Software industry and the needs of school leavers and unemployed people who want to gain employment as Software Developers.

The duration of the Software Developer Traineeship is 59 weeks. The Traineeship consists of 46 weeks off-the-job training with FÁS and 13 weeks on-the-job training with a host company.

The Job

A Software Developer is a key element in the success of a profitable software company or an efficient IT Department within an organisation.The main responsibilities of a Software Developer include the development, testing, documentation and maintenance of software programs and some basic design tasks.    

A Software Developer is a project team player capable of constructively interacting with other team members, software project team colleagues and clients.They also contribute to the achievement of agreed project team objectives within specific time limits.

The Person

You must have reached the statutory school leaving age of 16 years and be educated to Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent. You must have good problem solving and decision making skills along with excellent verbal and written communication skills.   Previous experience in computers or computer topics is desirable and you should demonstrate an interest in computer related topics. As part of the selection process you will be required to complete a Science Research Associates (SRA) Aptitude Test.

Progression

When qualified you will have opportunities to progress to senior positions in the software development industry through your experience and further education or training.
