Beauty Therapist Traineeship

Qualification

On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a FETAC Level 6 Advanced Certificate in Beauty Therapy

The Course

The Beauty Therapist Traineeship aims to provide unemployed people with an excellent foundation in the skills and practical experience required to gain employment in Beauty Therapy and to prepare them for examinations leading to recognised ITEC qualifications.

The duration of the Beauty Therapist Traineeship programme is 48 weeks. The Traineeship consists of 13 weeks off-the-job training with FÁS , 34 weeks integrated training (3 days per week with FÁS and 2 days per week in a salon) and 1 week on-the-job training in a salon.

The Job

A Beauty Therapist is a qualified worker capable of carrying out competently, under normal operating conditions, the day-to-day tasks arising in a busy Beauty Salon. These tasks include carrying out Skincare and Eye Treatments, Epilation, Facial Electrical Treatments, Holistic Massage, Manicure and Pedicures, Make Up and Waxing.

The Person

You should have reached the current statutory school leaving age of 16 years and be educated to Leaving Certificate standard. Leaving Certificate Biology or another relevant science subject is desirable.

You should be 'hands on' with good communication skills, have a caring open personality and enjoy working alone or as part of a team. Experience of working in a salon would be advantageous.

You must be prepared to commit to studying each night for the duration of the Traineeship.

Progression

When qualified you will have opportunities to progress to senior positions in the Beauty Therapy sector through your experience and further education or training which you may undertake in areas such as Complimentary and Sports Therapies, Body and Spa Treatments.
