Jewellery Manufacturing Operative Traineeship

Qualification

On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a FETAC Level 5 Certificate in Jewellery Manufacture and Repair

The Course

The Jewellery Manufacturing Operative Traineeship provides an excellent foundation for school leavers, mature applicants and unemployed people to gain the required training, skill and related knowledge in all aspects of jewellery production to work in the repair and manufacture of jewellery.   The duration of the Jewellery Manufacturing Operative Traineeship is 48 weeks.   The Traineeship consists of 19 weeks off-the-job training with FAS and 29 weeks on-the-job training with a host employer.

The Job

A Jewellery Manufacturing Operative is a qualified worker capable of carrying out competently a wide variety of tasks including; interpretation of drawings, marking out and producing pieces of jewellery using sawing and piercing techniques, forming, filing, engraving, stone setting, casting techniques and polishing finished pieces. 

The Person

You must have reached the statutory school leaving age of 16 years and be educated to Leaving Certificate standard or equivalent.   You should have good manual dexterity and previous experience in drafting, woodwork, metalwork or art or modelling would be an advantage.    You should be comfortable working with measurements and machinery.   If you possess good creative and drawing skills coupled with an interest in design you should consider this Traineeship.

Progression

When qualified you will have opportunities to progress to senior positions in the Jewellery Manufacturing sector through your experience and further education or taining.   For further information on progression you should contact the Federation of Jewellery Manufacturers of Ireland and the Company of Goldsmiths of Dublin.

In preparation for the Traineeship you may choose to identify a potential Host Employer for the Work Place Training element of the course.
