On successful completion of the programme the learner is awarded a QQI Level 4 Certificate in Private Security Services.
The Private Security Personnel Traineeship aims to provide unemployed people with an excellent foundation in the skills and practical experience required to gain employment in the security industry. Successful completion of the traineeship enables learners to apply for a Security Guard and Door Security Employee Licence from the Private Security Authority.
The duration of the Private Security Personnel Traineeship is 15 weeks. The Traineeship consists of 10 weeks off-the-job training with an ETB and 5 weeks on-the-job training with a host employer. On-the-job training should only take place with employers who have registered with the Private Security Authority. Proof of registration should be sought prior to placements being agreed.
Private Security Personnel are carefully selected, qualified workers capable of carrying out competently the tasks arising in the door security and security guarding sector.These tasks include; providing security guarding and door security services, monitoring CCTV and alarm systems, fire fighting and prevention, hazard identification, responding to emergencies, keeping appropriate records and applying appropriate arrest, detention and defensive techniques when required.
You must have reached the statutory school leaving age of 16 years and hold a Junior Certificate or equivalent, Under 18s require a Garda Parent/Guardian Consent Form signed by Parent or Guardian.
Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential, particularly reading, writing and verbal communication skills. You must demonstrate maturity, the ability to operate under pressurised situations and the ability to follow specific instructions. A high level of personal grooming and deportment is essential. You must be prepared to work unsociable hours. .
Applicants should be aware that Garda vetting is a requirement for participation on this programme. Continuation on the programme is subject to a satisfactory outcome of the SOLAS Garda vetting process.
When qualified you will have opportunities to progress to senior positions in the security industry through your experience and further education or training which you may undertake in areas such as Security Studies and Security Management.
