FÁS & the National Framework of Qualifications

With the introduction of the Qualifications (Education & Training) Act 1999, there have been a number of significant changes that have impacted directly on the area of further education and training in Ireland. The most notable developments have been the establishment of the National Qualifications Authority of Ireland (NQAI), the Further Education and Training Awards Council (FETAC) and the Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC).

The NQAI has developed a National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) based on standards of knowledge, skill and competence. The NFQ provides a nationally and internationally accepted structure through which all learning achievements can be measured and related to. This framework also provides clarity to learners and employers alike, on the type and level of qualifications available.
